Meet the Team
Gary Hashley, Senior Pastor
Never intending to be a pastor, Gary enrolled in the Missionary Aviation program at the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music. After three semesters and earning his Private Pilot’s License, God made it plain He had something else in mind other than flying on the mission field. Gary and Rachel married in 1977 and joined the Rural Bible Mission where they ministered to boys and girls in Michigan. Gary was called to pastor his first church in 1982, and that was the beginning of a wonderful adventure that led them here in January of 2007. Gary and Rachel have three grown children, two great sons-in-law and thirteen amazing grandchildren. They love hiking, biking and flying together.
Joe Patterson, Student Ministries Pastor
Joe has been working with Calvary's High School and Jr High students since he was called to Calvary as an intern in 2011, the same year he and his wife Crystal moved to Gering. In 2012 he officially joined the team as Calvary's youth pastor. He works specifically with students 6th-12th grades but is also very involved with Calvary's worship team and basically anything that involves video or media. He loves camping and the outdoors, archery, cooking, spending time with people, and his dog, Griffin.
Vicki Weber, Office Manager
Vicki and her husband, Kurt, have three adult daughters and seven grandchildren. She was married by Pastor Bonds at Calvary in 1979, so Calvary Memorial is home! Her past work experience includes jobs in the banking arena, ministry office manager roles, and city municipality positions. Now she’s back doing her heart’s desire. After participating in the Divided Kingdom study of the Old Testament by Bible Study Fellowship, she has found Micah 6:8 to be such a blessing: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good, And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Vicki is in awe of how God networks believers and uses all walks of life to glorify Himself. Her husband & her family are her greatest passion. Simple pleasures include tending her garden boxes, canning, reading, Bible studies, convertible rides, fishing, & a good, iced tea.
Deb Stobel, Financial Secretary
Deb and her husband Stan have attended Calvary Memorial Church for over 25 years. We are blessed to have had her handle the church finances for the past 10 years. In addition to her accounting work, Deb also enjoys teaching an elementary-aged Sunday school class and playing for the worship team. She has two grown sons and nine beautiful grandchildren.
Meagan Stobel, Pastoral Assistant
After attending Calvary Memorial Church for almost 10 years, Meagan became a member of the staff in 2017. In 2008, she married Andy, and together they have six beautiful children - Tobin, Evelyn, Lydia, Ari, Ruthie, and Lucy. Whether it is event planning, maintaining the church website, or helping Gary with a new idea, Meagan enjoys serving at Calvary Memorial Church.
Andy Stobel, Worship Team Leader and Life Group Director
Andy grew up at Calvary and learned early on the importance of serving; with encouragement from Pastor Charlie Hornick and Nancy Kihlthau, he began leading the congregational singing and directing the church choir while he was in high school. After attending the University of Nebraska-Kearney, he returned to Gering to teach German and English at Gering High School. Today, Andy is thrilled by the opportunity to raise his kids in his home church, where he is a worship team leader and adult LifeGroup teacher.
Mindy Joekel, Women's Ministry Director
Being part of the Women's Ministry activities at Calvary Memorial Church has always been a priority for Mindy. So when the opportunity came up, she felt called to become the director. Mindy's husband John was raised at Calvary, and together they have four beautiful girls. Mindy loves to bake and makes delicious cakes and cupcakes.
